Heal-Move-Shift was started by passionate individuals looking to change the stigma surrounding mental health, cardiovascular health, and nutritional health in Dearborn, Detroit, and Ann Arbor. Each Heal-Move-Shift member has a deep connection our collective vision, and we look forward to sharing our stories with you.

Ahmad is an alumnus from the University of Michigan receiving a degree in Biomolecular Science. As an MPhil candidate, he looks to integrate his passion for biomedical science with a sub-specialty in health policy to create solutions to some of the world's deadliest disease outbreaks.

Tariq is an alumnus of University of Michigan, with a degreee in Biomolecular Science. His passion is facilitating the conversation around wellness and will pursue this passion through working with youth on mental health fitness. As a future physician, he hopes to integrate this passion in his career. Awarded the Bonderman Fellowship, Tariq will be traveling for the next eight months.

Mariam Reda

Mariam is an alumna from the University of Michigan, receiving degrees in Poetry and Biopsychology. She is a Hopwood award-winning poet for her collection about Middle Eastern identity. She currently works at Wayne State to research brain mechanisms behind trauma, and is pursuing Psychiatry to contribute to the understanding of how identity and trauma shape neuroscience and poetry.

Mohsin is a Senior pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in the School of Public Health focusing on Global and Community Health. He is interested in becoming a physician and intends to pursue an MD MPH dual degree. He is active among multiple mental health initiatives and hopes to redefine the mental health stigmas across the UofM campus and abroad.

​Sanjana is a Junior at the University of Michigan studying Neuroscience with a minor in Gender, Race, and Nation. She is passionate about creating a more socially aware environment by educating others on gender, minority, and mental health disparities. She hopes to continue educating others and integrate this into her everyday practice as a future physician.

Alyssa Harbaugh

Alyssa is a Junior at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor who is studying Biochemistry with a minor in Music. She is passionate about vocal performance, medical research, and mental health. Alyssa designs seminars for HMS and manages implementation of the high school pilot programs. She hopes to carry her passions and the lessons she has learned at HMS with her through medical school and into her future career.

 Ravi Patel

Ravi is a Junior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in the School of Public Health. He is passionate about social justice issues and health inequities amongst minority communities. As a future physician, he hopes to apply his public health education to reduce health disparities and help reform health care. Ravi hopes his work with HMS can help make a positive impact on the UofM campus and its surrounding communities.

Chithra R. Perumalswami, MD, MSc

Dr. Perumalswami is a health services researcher and postdoctoral research fellow in the Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School.  Her current scholarly work focuses on quality of health care, particularly for vulnerable populations in which health care disparities are evident. She has additional expertise examining organizational behavior issues in medicine. She has a Master of Science in Health and Health Care Research through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program. Her clinical training includes internal medicine and palliative medicine, as well as relevant clinical and quality improvement project experience as a hospitalist for several years after residency. As a fellow in the CBSSM, she has additional experiential training in bioethics and social science methodologies.

Allison is a Junior at the University of Michigan pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Community and Global Health in the School of Public Health. She hopes to attend Graduate School and become a Registered Dietician. She is very passionate about educating others on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, whether it be through mental health awareness, nutrition, or physical activity. She is extremely excited to learn from her involvement in HMS and integrate her experiences into her future career.

Rohit is a Junior at the University of Michigan studying Biomedical Engineering with a Biochemical Concentration. He is passionate about raising awareness for children with different abilities and making schools a safer space for all people. As a future physician, he hopes to continue this work and integrate wellness principles into his everyday career. ​

Hala is a senior at the University of Michigan who is pursuing studies in Bimolecular Sciences in hopes of becoming a physician. She is a strong advocate for beating down the stigma that exists around mental health, especially in minority communities such as her own. She is also passionate about the arts and using people's creative abilities to maintain a heathy balance of mind.

I am a recent graduate from U of M Dearborn and will be attending medical school next fall! I graduated with a degree in Biology but also love reading literature & writing. I hope to incorporate the humanities into my career as a way to help patients and physicians connect. In my free time, I love mentoring and working with children. I'm currently spending my gap year working as a kids' soccer coach and also volunteering with North Star Reach, a camp in pinckney for children with medical needs.
